Background

Floods and waterlogging are recurring challenges in the Badi Gandak (Narayani) and Rapti river basins of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, severely affecting the livelihoods of small and marginal farmers. Women farmers are particularly vulnerable due to limited access to resilient livelihood opportunities, agricultural inputs, and disaster-resilient infrastructure. The proposed project aims to address these challenges through an integrated, community-driven flood resilience model that combines ecosystem restoration, climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable livelihoods, and innovative adaptation solutions.

Project Goal

To enhance resilience, strengthen sustainable livelihoods, and improve the quality of life of 4,000 flood-affected women farmers in 20 villages of Maharajganj district by increasing annual household income by 25–35%.

Project Objectives

  • Promote sustainable ecosystem-based flood resilience solutions.
  • Improve livelihoods through integrated farming systems and climate-resilient agriculture.
  • Reduce soil erosion and riverbank degradation through bamboo plantation.
  • Strengthen community preparedness and resilience against flood hazards.
  • Establish sustainable income generation opportunities for flood-prone communities.
