The Empowering Rural Women (ERW) program in Uttar Pradesh, funded by Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, empowered marginalized rural women in 9 districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh from June 2012 to May 2013. It focused on leadership development, enabling women to claim their "right to work" and "right to food."
A state-level Nari Sangh Secretariat was established, involving 34 partners across 682 Gram Panchayats, reaching over 100,000 women. A 27-member State Advocacy Group (SAG) was formed, with 9 core members for regular advocacy.
Key achievements included strengthening state-level advocacy, improving government engagement, enhancing media visibility, increasing leader capacity, and developing resources. Program activities encompassed forming a state-level Nari Sangh platform, developing an advocacy plan, engaging with government officials and media outlets, and tracking government orders.
The program successfully empowered rural women, contributing to their increased access to rights and entitlements. Collaborative efforts among program partners, the SAG, and Nari Sangh leaders were crucial to the program's success, significantly advancing the empowerment of rural women in Uttar Pradesh.
