Eastern U.P. Health Initiative - Community Health Program Narrative Progress Report

Implemented by Srishti Seva Sansthan, Maharajganj, with support from Tata Trusts, Mumbai, and technical support from PANI, Faizabad, the Eastern U.P. Health Initiative aimed to improve health outcomes in 20 gram panchayats of Sadar block, Maharajganj, covering a population of 68,561.

Building on the success of the ERW program, which focused on women's collectivization, the project identified health as a critical unmet need, particularly maternal and child health. The project's goals included improving institutional deliveries, antenatal and postnatal care, adolescent health, and community health access.

During the reporting period, significant progress was made, including the registration of 3,777 pregnant women, identification and treatment of 473 high-risk pregnancies, and the conduct of 103 monthly AAA meetings. The project also facilitated Nari Sangh advocacy, monthly mother group meetings, and family planning tracking.

The project's outputs and outcomes included improved local health planning, enhanced data sharing and VHND planning, and increased awareness on antenatal, postnatal, and child health. The project also promoted hygiene and health awareness among adolescents and improved adolescent health through anemia screening and treatment.

While some activities, such as the completion of VHSNC orientation in all 22 gram panchayats, remained unachieved, the project demonstrated significant improvements in maternal, child, adolescent, and environmental health, with increased community engagement in health planning and service delivery.
